I also read, and very much enjoyed, Breaking Her Fall. But also very much enjoyed
The Summer Guest by Justin Cronin ( A sensitive story about three generations of a samily, the war and avoidance of it.)
Not Me by Michael Lavigne
(Father suffers from Alzheimers and son goes home to care for him and learns that he was a nazi during the war.)
What is the What by Edggers
(Story of the lost boys of Sudan)
Just finished Exile by Richard North Patterson. A very even-handed view of the Palestinian-Israeli situation told in fiction.

I think the "Namesake" was my favorite book that I read in 2007, followed by "Free Food For Millionaires" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns...."

I know I'm a little bit behind the times here, but the best book I read in 2007 was The Kite Runner. I also enjoyed Revolutionary Road & The Book of Joe (both from EIWTB entries--thanks Gayle!), The Road and, dare I say it here, the final Harry Potter book.

Jeez - I am not a Harry Potter basher! Just a Harry Potter ignoramus.

I read so many good books in 2007! Of course, not all of them were published in 2007. Here are some of my favorites: Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy, The Mistress's Daughter by A. M. Homes, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas, and The Secret Lives of People in Love by Simon Van Booy... and more!

The best book I read in 2007 that was written in 2007 was the Post-Birthday World. But the my favorite books I read were Time Traveler's Wife and Middlesex (I was behind the times!).

I finished my favorite book of 2007 on Dec 31st - The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. It had a little bit of everything, including lovely writing.
