Haha!! I am almost caught-up with my pile but I sort of had to do the same thing. I started saying "no" and stopped adding stuff to Goodreads. It took a good 3 months to catch-up but I don't think I had nearly as many books as you do.

This post made me laugh because I go through the same thing all the time. I am constantly trying to institute moratoriums but they never last for long. I belong to paperbackswap, which I LOVE, but it is bad for letting the books just pile up. My TBR piles look a lot like yours. I always figure it's better to be addicted to books rather than something harmful. :-)

I'm right there with you! After I reorganized my books this weekend, I realized just how many books I own! I have so many, I didn't even know what I had. I found duplicates, all because I have so many books I can't keep track of them all.

Since prior to BEA I've been limiting the books I accept for review. I've realized I'm going to have to keep that up...indefinitely!

I know just what you mean. Things here have gotten pretty out of control and I am finding that there are many more books than I have the time to read. I am not sure what I am going to do about it yet, but your ideas are radical and impressive. I am going to have to make a plan soon, because I am falling seriously behind!!

I threw away four NYT Book Reviews without reading them this morning, including the "Summer Reading" issue, and I threw away some notes on my desk of books I wanted to order. Sigh.

Lisa and I both really liked Middlesex. The friend we went to Greece with a few years ago said it was required reading pre-trip.

Have a relaxing, book-filled vacation!

Funny! Good luck with your ban on book acquisitions. I always think I'm going to do that, then try and fail within about a week.

I hope you like the book on CD. I've become a big fan of audiobooks for listening to books in the car.

Middlesex is great!

Lisa

I always remain impressed that you ever have time to read! Middlesex was a great book--enjoy your vaca.

I'm almost there.. Not quite, but almost...

Oh I can SO relate to this. I have so many books that every time someone comes to visit me they tell me I need to "do something with them" or "give some away." But I can't! Most of them I haven't read yet!

Happy vacation!

Lisa

I feel your pain! I've almost completely stopped accepting books for review and will not let myself pick up a magazine no matter how enticing the picture on the front is. It's so hard!

Kiki

Love Middlesex. I have s a similar book habit--plus, I work in a bookstore, so there is always constant temptation!

Valerie

I really liked Middlesex, although I don't know how it will go over in audio. If it has a good narrator, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the book. I'm not sure it took me 21 hours to read it -- maybe the narrator talks very slowly :-).

I totally understand your feeling that you need to catch up on your TBR!!

I think there are a lot of people - including me - who can totally relate to what you're feeling.

I have a similar issue, but there are books that are in the TBR pile I tried and didn't finish...and I'm not sure what to do with them because to review them would be bad since I've read no more than 10 pages.

Have a good vacation of reading and no book buying!
